Wastewater application guide
Wastewater Chemical Transfer Pumps
A defined treatment chemical can suit an ANSI process pump. Raw sewage, grit, scum and thickened sludge usually demand a different solids-handling route. The first selection decision is therefore the stream—not the pump model.

Who this page helps
Separate chemical transfer from solids handling
Wastewater facilities contain many different services. Selection becomes clearer when each stream is described by composition, duty and suction conditions.
Treatment plants
Need reliable transfer of defined chemicals or clarified side-streams.
EPC & system integrators
Need a defensible application boundary and documented selection inputs.
Maintenance teams
Need to distinguish corrosion, blockage, cavitation and seal failure.
Replacement teams
Need a duty and dimensional review before proposing an installed fit.
Application boundary
Which side of the boundary is your stream?
The descriptions below are screening guidance. Final selection depends on the confirmed liquid, solids, duty and system.
Defined chemical or controlled side-stream
- Coagulants and treatment chemicals
- Acids, alkalis and cleaning solutions
- Clarified process water with defined solids
- Odour-control or dosing-transfer services
- Other clean or lightly contaminated liquids after review
Material, seal, viscosity, crystallization and suction conditions still require confirmation.
BOUNDARY
Raw or concentrated solids service
- Raw sewage with rags or stringy matter
- Grit, scum or large debris
- Thickened sludge and high-solids slurry
- Services requiring chopper or grinder action
- Submersible or positive-displacement duties
These may need a dedicated solids-handling, sludge or other pump type outside the ANSI chemical-process route.
Selection checklist
Define the stream before choosing materials
Contaminants, cleaning chemicals and upset conditions can change a material choice that looked acceptable from the main chemical name.
Review material-selection inputs →Process stream
Exact chemical or stream name, concentration, pH, temperature, cleaning cycle and possible contaminants.
Solids behaviour
Concentration, maximum size, hardness, abrasiveness, fibres, rags, settling tendency and crystallization risk.
Operating range
Minimum, normal and maximum flow; corresponding total dynamic head; continuous, intermittent or batch operation.
Suction conditions
Flooded or lift suction, source level, tank pressure, pipe losses, site elevation, vapour pressure and NPSH available.
Materials and sealing
All wetted components, seal faces, elastomers, flushing plan and any plant-approved material specification.
Product-family routes
ANSI process pumps for reviewed chemical-transfer duties
These routes apply only after the stream has passed the application-boundary review.

G196 Series
An open-impeller process-pump route with multiple material and seal options for confirmed industrial chemical duties.
- Open-impeller platform
- External impeller adjustment
- Duty-specific materials and seals

D Mark III Series
A reverse-vane process-pump platform for reviewed corrosive and industrial liquid-transfer services.
- Reverse-vane platform
- External impeller adjustment
- Material and seal review
Reliability check
Seal problems often start elsewhere
Before changing seal type, review the conditions that determine seal-chamber behaviour.
Dry-running risk
Batch tanks and intermittent transfer can expose the seal if priming and minimum level are not controlled.
Crystallization or deposits
Cooling, evaporation or chemical reaction can affect faces, passages and flush arrangements.
Operation away from range
Cavitation, vibration and shaft movement can shorten seal life even when the seal material is chemically compatible.
Prepare the application review
Send the stream, solids and suction data
We will first confirm whether the duty belongs in an ANSI chemical-process route, then identify the hydraulic, material and seal information still needed.
Buyer questions
Wastewater chemical-transfer FAQ
Can an ANSI process pump handle raw sewage?
Raw sewage may contain rags, debris and solids that require a dedicated solids-handling design. It should not be assumed to suit an ANSI chemical-process pump.
Which wastewater duties may suit an ANSI pump?
Defined treatment chemicals and controlled liquid side-streams may be suitable after liquid, solids, materials, seal and suction conditions are reviewed.
How should I describe solids in the RFQ?
State concentration, maximum size, hardness, abrasiveness, fibres or rags, settling behaviour and whether the liquid can crystallize or form deposits.
What should I send for an installed replacement?
Send the nameplate, model, size, curve and drawing if available, photographs, critical dimensions, actual duty, stream data and failure history.
Request a Wastewater Chemical Pump Review
Include the stream composition and treatment chemical, concentration, temperature, solids character, the duty point or operating range with required head, suction conditions, material preferences and operating schedule. For a replacement, add the existing model, size and a nameplate photo.
Open “Add technical details” to fill in what you know, and mark anything uncertain as unknown — a marked gap is reviewable, a silent one is not.
