ANSI/ASME B73.1 Chemical Process Pumps

YSM manufactures ANSI/ASME B73.1 horizontal end-suction chemical process pumps in two families, each built to one of the two dimensional patterns most widely installed in the process industries. The G196 series follows the Goulds 3196 pattern with an open impeller; the D Mark III series follows the Durco Mark 3 pattern with a reverse-vane impeller. Both are supplied as complete non-OEM pumps and as replacement parts, in materials from carbon steel to titanium, and both are dimensionally interchangeable with the corresponding installed pump of the same size and frame or group.

Series limits are listed in the comparison table below; individual size, impeller diameter, material and seal arrangement set the limits for a given pump.

Because B73.1 fixes the installation envelope, the same pumps also replace other B73.1 pumps of the same size and frame — Griswold 811, Peerless 8196, Summit 2196, Aurora 3550, PumpWorks PWA Gen2 and Summit Clark 3 — through the ANSI Replacement Pumps and Parts programme.

Choose by duty

Duty Replacement Pumps for Goulds Replacement Pumps for Flowserve
General purpose — clean and lightly contaminated liquids G196 General Purpose D Mark III General Purpose
Low flow at high head — injection, dosing, reflux G196 Low Flow D Mark III Low Flow
Self-priming — liquid source below the pump G3796 Self-Priming D Mark III Unitized Self-Priming

Selections are curve-based. Send the duty point, liquid data and suction conditions; low-flow, self-priming and non-clog pumps are confirmed on the reviewed curve for the submitted duty.

Materials of construction

Every wet-end part — casing, impeller, cover or rear cover, seal chamber and gland — is cast in the alloy the service requires. Higher alloys are produced on the same patterns as the stainless grades, so an exotic-alloy pump keeps the same dimensions and interchangeability as the CF8M pump.

A G3175-class heavy-duty process pump cast and machined in titanium at YSM — over 1,200 kg as shipped. Exotic alloys are produced on the same patterns as the stainless grades, so dimensions and interchangeability do not change with the material.
Material Typical use Notes
WCB carbon steel Non-corrosive liquids, hydrocarbons, utility water Lowest cost; not for oxidising or acidic services
CF8M (316 stainless steel) General chemical service, mild acids, alkalis, solvents Standard wet-end material
CD4MCu duplex stainless steel Chlorides, brines, mildly abrasive corrosives Higher strength and pitting resistance than CF8M
CN7M (Alloy 20) Sulphuric acid across a wide concentration range Cast and machined on the same patterns as CF8M
Monel Hydrofluoric acid, seawater, caustic Nickel-copper alloy
Nickel Hot caustic soda and potash Commercially pure nickel castings
Hastelloy B Hydrochloric acid and reducing acids Nickel-molybdenum alloy
Hastelloy C Oxidising and mixed acids, chlorine-bearing liquids Nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy
Titanium Wet chlorine, hypochlorite, nitric acid, seawater Same dimensions and interchangeability as the CF8M pump
Zirconium alloy Hot concentrated sulphuric and hydrochloric acids On request

Shafts are SAE 4140 or 316SS with sleeves in the wet-end alloy; bearing frames and housings are cast or ductile iron. Material certificates are issued with the order on request.

Replacement and interchangeability

Every G196 and D Mark III page states the pattern it follows and the installed pumps it replaces. For an installed pump, the interchange is confirmed from the nameplate size and frame or group, the outline drawing and, where available, the existing part numbers — never from appearance alone. Replacement parts are supplied with a part-number cross-reference listed for identification only.

Manufacturing and quality

Pumps and parts are cast (sand, lost-foam and V-process), machined and assembled in YSM’s own facility. Every impeller is dynamically balanced, every casing hydrostatically tested; assembled pumps are performance-tested on request. Parts are packed in cartons inside export wooden cases. See the factory review for the equipment list and photographs.

ANSI Process Pump FAQ

What is an ANSI/ASME B73.1 pump?

A horizontal end-suction, single-stage centrifugal process pump built to the ASME B73.1 specification, which fixes the mounting, flange and shaft dimensions for each size. Because the envelope is standardised, pumps of the same size and frame from different manufacturers can be installed on the same baseplate and piping — the basis of the replacement and interchange programme on this site.

Replacement pumps for Goulds or for Flowserve — which family should I choose?

If you are replacing an installed pump, follow the pattern of the installed pump so that baseplate, piping and parts stay interchangeable. For a new installation the choice is usually a plant standard: the G196 (3196-pattern open impeller) and the D Mark III (Mark 3-pattern reverse-vane impeller) cover the same B73.1 duties; the comparison table on this page lists the differences.

Which materials are available, and how do I choose?

Wet-end parts are cast in WCB, CF8M, CD4MCu, CN7M (Alloy 20), Monel, Nickel, Hastelloy B and C, Titanium and Zirconium alloy. The choice follows the liquid, its concentration and temperature; send the liquid data with the enquiry and we confirm the material with the selection. Exotic alloys keep the same dimensions and interchangeability as the CF8M pump.

Are these pumps OEM products?

No. YSM is an independent manufacturer. All pumps and parts are non-OEM, produced to YSM’s own drawings and patterns to the ANSI/ASME B73.1 dimensional standard. Manufacturer names and model numbers on this site identify the pattern a pump follows and are used for compatibility reference only.

What do you need to quote?

The duty point (flow and head), the liquid and its properties, suction conditions, and for a replacement the nameplate of the installed pump. Our selection guide and RFQ checklist list the data in full; we reply with a reviewed selection, materials, seal arrangement and a quotation.

Replacement, equivalent or interchangeable — what do these terms mean here?

On this site the three words describe the same thing. A replacement pump is a YSM-built pump that takes the place of an installed OEM unit. It is an equivalent because it is built to the same ANSI/ASME B73.1 envelope with comparable hydraulics and materials. It is interchangeable because the mounting, flange and shaft dimensions match the named OEM pattern, so it fits the existing baseplate and piping. None of the terms means the product is made or endorsed by the OEM; every pump and part is non-OEM and manufactured by YSM.

All manufacturer names, model numbers and trademarks are used for reference and compatibility identification only. YSM Pumps (Jinan Yingsiman Machinery Co., Ltd.) is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by any of these manufacturers. All pumps and parts are non-OEM and manufactured by YSM.

Request an ANSI process pump selection or interchange review

The form below carries the initial request. The selection review uses, where available:

  1. Duty point: rated flow and total head (state units), plus minimum and maximum flow if the pump will run across a range.
  2. Liquid: name or composition, concentration, temperature, specific gravity, viscosity, solids content and size, vapour pressure if volatile.
  3. Suction conditions: NPSH available, suction lift or flooded suction, tank or vessel layout.
  4. Installed pump data for replacements: nameplate model, size and frame or group, serial number, and a photo of the nameplate; the pump outline or foundation drawing if available.
  5. Materials, seal type, seal flush plan, motor supply (voltage, frequency, phase) and any documentation you require (material certificates, test reports, drawings).

We reply with a reviewed selection, the size and frame proposed, materials, seal arrangement and a quotation. Where the enquiry is a replacement for an installed pump, we confirm the dimensional interchange from your nameplate and drawing data before order. Drawings and nameplate photos can follow during review.
