G196 Series — ANSI B73.1 Pumps Interchangeable with the Goulds 3196 Type

The G196 series is YSM’s family of ANSI/ASME B73.1 chemical process pumps built to the Goulds 3196 dimensional pattern. Four pumps share the same STX / MTX / LTX / XLTX power ends and the same materials programme: the G196 General Purpose, the G196 Low Flow, the G3796 Self-Priming and the G196 CV Non-Clog. Each is dimensionally interchangeable with the corresponding 3196-type pump in the same size and frame, and each is supplied as a non-OEM replacement pump or as replacement parts for an installed pump of that pattern.

YSM (Jinan Yingsiman Machinery Co., Ltd., registered in Jinan in June 2018) manufactures ANSI B73.1 pumps and parts at its Zibo works, in operation since 2010, with its own patterns, drawings, casting and machining. This page is the entry point for the Goulds-type range; the four product pages carry the size tables, dimensions, materials and part-number cross-references.

Series performance envelope

The general-purpose sizes cover capacities to 7,000 US gpm (1,590 m³/h), heads to 730 ft (223 m), temperatures to 700 °F (371 °C) and working pressures to 375 psig (2,586 kPa). Individual size, impeller diameter and material set the limits for a given pump; low-flow, self-priming and non-clog selections are confirmed on the reviewed curve for the submitted duty point.

Power-end frames and parts commonality

The four G196 pumps use the same four power-end frames. Within a frame the bearing frame, bearing housing, shaft, shaft sleeve, bearing isolators and seal chamber hardware are common, which keeps the spare inventory for a mixed installation small.

Materials of construction

Wet-end parts are cast in WCB carbon steel, CF8M (316 stainless steel), CD4MCu duplex stainless steel, CN7M (Alloy 20), Monel, Nickel, Hastelloy B and Hastelloy C, Titanium and Zirconium alloy. Higher alloys — Hastelloy B and C, Nickel, Titanium and Zirconium — are produced on the same patterns as the stainless grades, so an exotic-alloy G196 keeps the same dimensions and the same interchangeability as the CF8M pump. Shafts are SAE 4140 or 316SS with sleeves in the wet-end alloy; bearing frames are cast iron (ductile iron on STX) and adapters ductile iron.

Replacement programme for other ANSI B73.1 pumps

Because ANSI/ASME B73.1 fixes the installation envelope, the G196 is also supplied as a non-OEM replacement for, and is dimensionally interchangeable with, other B73.1 pumps of the same size and frame. Cross-reference pages with the frame mapping are available for:

The ANSI Replacement Pumps and Parts hub lists all replacement pages and the parts programme. Parts for the 3196 pattern by frame and pump size, with the OEM part numbers they correspond to, are listed on the Goulds 3196 pattern parts page.

Two G196 bare-shaft units (Goulds 3196 STX pattern) at the YSM works before packing: casing, power end and flange protectors fitted, motor and baseplate supplied separately when the order calls for them.

YSM is an independent manufacturer. Pumps and parts are produced to YSM’s own drawings and patterns, to the ANSI/ASME B73.1 dimensional standard, and are not supplied by or associated with the original equipment manufacturer. Every impeller is dynamically balanced, every casing is hydrostatically tested and every assembled pump can be performance-tested on request; material certificates, balance reports and test reports are issued with the order. Parts are packed in cartons inside export wooden cases.

Identify an installed pump before ordering

A replacement is confirmed from the nameplate, not from the pump’s appearance. Send the model, size (for example 3×4-8), frame (STX, MTX, LTX, XLTX), serial number and, where available, the outline drawing and existing part numbers. Our nameplate and drawing identification guide explains where to find each item.

Where a part is obsolete or no drawing exists, it can be reverse engineered from the removed part or a sample.

Documentation

G196 performance coverage curves, sectional drawings with parts lists, installation dimensions and interchangeability tables (Rev. A, 2026-07) are available as PDFs on the Technical Downloads page. Reviewed curves for a specific size are issued with each selection.

G196 Series FAQ

What does 'Goulds 3196 type' mean on this page?

It identifies the dimensional pattern the G196 series follows: the ANSI/ASME B73.1 envelope with the STX / MTX / LTX / XLTX power-end structure used by the Goulds 3196. A G196 of the same size and frame fits where a 3196 was installed. Goulds and 3196 are trademarks of their owner; YSM is an independent non-OEM manufacturer.

Which G196 pump should I start from?

General purpose for most chemical, petrochemical, pulp and paper and utility duties; Low Flow when the duty sits far left of a standard pump’s best efficiency point; G3796 Self-Priming when the liquid source is below the pump; G196 CV when the liquid carries large solids, fibres or entrained gas. Send the duty point and liquid data and we route the enquiry.

Do the four pumps share parts?

Yes. All four are built on the G196 STX / MTX / LTX / XLTX power ends, so bearing frames, bearing housings, shafts, sleeves, bearing isolators and seal chamber hardware are common within a frame. Casings, impellers and covers are specific to each pump type and size.

Can YSM replace other ANSI B73.1 pumps with the G196?

Yes. Because B73.1 fixes the installation envelope, the G196 is also supplied as a non-OEM replacement for, and is dimensionally interchangeable with, the Griswold 811, Peerless 8196, Summit 2196, Aurora 3550 and PumpWorks PWA Gen2 series in matching sizes and frames. Each has its own cross-reference page.

Where are G196 pumps made and how is quality controlled?

In YSM’s own facility in Shandong, China: in-house casting (sand, lost-foam and V-process), CNC machining, dynamic balancing of every impeller, hydrostatic testing of every casing and performance testing on our test bench. Material certificates and test reports are supplied with the order on request.

All manufacturer names, model numbers and trademarks are used for reference and compatibility identification only. YSM Pumps (Jinan Yingsiman Machinery Co., Ltd.) is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by any of these manufacturers. All pumps and parts are non-OEM and manufactured by YSM.

Request a G196 series selection or interchange review

The form below carries the initial request. The selection review uses, where available:

  1. Duty point: rated flow and total head (state units), plus minimum and maximum flow if the pump will run across a range.
  2. Liquid: name or composition, concentration, temperature, specific gravity, viscosity, solids content and size, vapour pressure if volatile.
  3. Suction conditions: NPSH available, suction lift or flooded suction, tank or vessel layout.
  4. Installed pump data for replacements: nameplate model, size and frame or group, serial number, and a photo of the nameplate; the pump outline or foundation drawing if available.
  5. Materials, seal type, seal flush plan, motor supply (voltage, frequency, phase) and any documentation you require (material certificates, test reports, drawings).

We reply with a reviewed selection, the size and frame proposed, materials, seal arrangement and a quotation. Where the enquiry is a replacement for an installed pump, we confirm the dimensional interchange from your nameplate and drawing data before order. Drawings and nameplate photos can follow during review.

G196 Selection Decision Guide

Selection boundaries save both sides a review cycle: the fastest quotation is the one that starts on the right page. The G196 is the family default for open-impeller B73.1 duties; the lists below mark where a different starting point serves the duty better. Crossing a boundary is not a downgrade — a reverse-vane family or a heavy-duty stock pump is simply a different answer to a different duty.

Start with G196 when

  • An ANSI/ASME B73.1 open-impeller process pump is the preferred starting point.
  • The enquiry includes general chemical transfer, wet-end parts or an existing G196 / 3196-style reference.
  • The required review involves STX, MTX, LTX or XLTX frame context.
